Day 305 – Whose job is it anyway?

It’s easy to get stuck in our titles, roles, and responsibilities in both our lives and our work.

This week, I am facilitating an executive team to talk about this exact subject.

When no one takes responsibility, the message is not clear. Nothing got accomplished.

I remember a story my mentor shared with me when I was 26. It is so perfect for today’s post.

Whose job is it anyway?

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job.

Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

Simple?

Common Sense?

Can you relate?

What you think is not always what you say.

What you say may not be interpreted the way you think it should be.

Clarity is key.

Communication is vital.
